About the issue

​Industry 4.0 is the trend towards automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies and processes which include cyber-physical systems (CPS), the internet of things (IoT), industrial internet of things (IIOT), cloud computing, cognitive computing and artificial intelligence. The smart factory represents a leap forward from more traditional automation to a fully connected and flexible system. A true smart factory can integrate data from system-wide physical, operational, and human assets to drive manufacturing, maintenance, inventory tracking, digitization of operations through the digital twin, integrating by Internet, increasing the automation, and other types of activities across the entire manufacturing network. An optimized smart factory allows operations to be executed with minimal manual intervention and high reliability. In practice, smart factories lie at the core of both, Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing. Also, the data captured in the smart factory are transparent. Moreover, industrial information systems management within smart factories and Industry 4.0 is quite important. Reducing the costs, improving the competitiveness and optimizing the environmental effects of the manufacturing processes is also important.

 

This special issue aims at providing platform for researchers and practitioners to exchange and publish the latest research trends and results, and so in the area related to industrial information systems, management, optimization and Industry 4.0. Main objective of this issue is to encourage researchers to explore key concepts of integration of cloud-fog computing that can be utilized efficiently in IoT and give various benefits to the e-commerce.

Contributions from various engineering, scientific, economic and social fields that exploit data analytics, machine learning, data mining, experimental studies, and other such technologies in real deployment are welcomed.

Submission instructions

 

Original papers describing completed and unpublished work not currently under review by any other journal/magazine/conference/workshop are solicited. Previously published conference/ symposia/workshop papers or technical reports MUST be clearly clarified by the authors (at the submission stage) and an explanation should be provided how such papers have been extended to be considered for this special issue.

 

Prospective authors should submit via the submission site of Enterprise Information Systems. Submitting authors must answer ‘Yes’ to a question of “Is this submission for a special issue?” and then select “Smart Factories & Ind. 4.0” from the drop-down menu.
